The monitoring of waterways in the Southland forests managed by Wenita confirms that the water quality is good.

Late last year our Southland Forest Manager Don Frengley completed SHMAK (Stream Health Monitoring and Assessment Kit) assessments in waterways in Whare Creek, Hedgehope and Tyneholm blocks.

There was a good variety of invertebrate life in all the waterways, including some high-scoring creatures, such as caddisfly, stonefly and mayfly larvae.

The presence of these creatures indicates good habitat and water quality conditions.
