Wenita’s planting season began a little later than usual this year, starting in the last week of June.
We delayed the start because seedlings planted early in previous years had not thrived as well as those planted later.
Planting for the year is now almost finished, with all work focused on replanting cutover (recently harvested) land, mostly with Radiata Pine. Replanting covered about 715 hectares in Berwick Forest and Akatore, Brocks and Allanton blocks.
Gutsell Forestry Services is currently planting about 30,000 kānuka trees in Ngāi Tahu’s Wainuku Forest.
