Wenita has introduced a series of safety measures to improve driving conditions and reduce risks across our forest road network.
These initiatives are designed to protect workers, contractors and visitors by creating a safer environment for all road users.
Speed limit
The most significant change is the implementation of a maximum speed limit of 50 km/h in all Wenita forests. This lower limit is intended to minimise collision risk and give drivers more time to react to unexpected hazards. Lower speeds also help preserve road surfaces and reduce dust.
Markers and pullover bays
While kilometre markers and pullover bays are already established across the network, access routes are rechecked before operations begin. Kilometre markers are being replaced or repositioned where needed, and additional pullover bays are being installed at regular intervals. These improvements support accurate location reporting and provide safe areas for stopping or allowing other vehicles to pass.
Drive to conditions
Radio communication has been a key road safety focus. Clear, consistent communication is essential for avoiding congestion and ensuring everyone is aware of vehicle movements within the forest. However, the key message remains: Drive to the conditions, not the radio. Drivers must always be able to stop within half the visible road distance.
