The 2019 winter planting season is almost upon us, although ground conditions are still drier than we would like.
Hopefully we get some good rain in the next couple of weeks, so that we can start planting before the end of May. This year we will plant cutover areas at South Akatore, Moneymore, Berwick, Knock Hill (Browns) and Maungatua blocks in the Wenita estate, a total of about 675ha – slightly less than the 720ha planted last year.
Additionally, there is approximately 520ha to plant for Ngāi Tahu in North Otago, and 100ha for other private growers.
Nursery stocks look to be in good condition.
